Quantitative stratigraphy and taxonomy of late Emsian and Eifelian ammonoids of the eastern Anti-Atlas (Mororcco). - 109 S., 44 Abb., 23 Tab., 13 Taf.,
Sixteen late Emsian and Eifelian sections (Early and Middle Devonian) in the Tafilalt (eastern Anti-Atlas, Morocco), several previously undescribed, were investigated, figured, and described. In order to develop a coherent stratigraphical scheme based on ammonoids, the method of graphic correlation was applied to 14 highly fossiliferous sections in the study area. This produced an ammonoid range chart based on the Tafilalt Regional Composite and the stratigraphical subdivision of the included sections. The conclusions were tested by comparing them with a lithostratigraphical correlation of the sections. Consequently, the following stratigraphical succession of the late Emsian to Eifelian ammonoid faunas in the Tafilalt is suggested: Latanarcestes noeggerathi Unit, Sellanarcestes wenkenbachi Unit, Anarcestes lateseptatus Unit, Foordites veniens Unit, Pinacites jugleri Unit, Subanarcestes macrocephalus Unit, Cabrieroceras crispiforme Unit, Cabrieroceras housei Unit, Agoniatites vanuxemi Unit, Parodiceras magnosellaris Unit, Agoniatites obliquus Unit, Holzapfeloceras circumflexiferum Unit. The family Pinacitidae and the genera Fidelites, Pinacites, Exopinacites, Sellanarcestes, Paranarcestes, Werneroceras, Crispoceras, Cabrieroceras, and Subanarcestes are revised and the following new genera are introduced: Achguigites gen. n., Pseudofidelites gen. n., Parafidelites gen. n., Mimotornoceras gen. n., Wendtia gen. n., and Diallagites gen. n.
