JISUO JIN & COPPER, P. (2000):

Late Ordovician and Early Silurian pentamerid brachiopods of Anticosti Island, Quebec, Canada. 140 S., 31 Taf.,
Upper Ordovician-Lower Silurian carbonates of Anticosti contain 13 genera and subgenera and 27 species of pentamerids, including one new genus, two new subgenera, and eight new species. Parastrophinella was the only Upper Ordovician pentamerid. The succeeding Rhuddanian formations are dominated by Virgiana. In the Aeronian, Pentamerus, Stricklandia and Kulumbella become common. Highest diversity was in the upper Aeronian to middle Telychian. Virgiana is a reliable index for the middle-late Rhuddanian; Kulumbella occurs only in middle Aeronian; Pentameroides and Costistricklandia are confined to middle and late Telychian. Pentamerid communities lived on a wider range of substrate conditions in the Anticosti Basin than previously believed. This study suggests that their relative depth distribution on carbonate shelves may differ from those of siliciclastic ramps.

The Manson Impact Structure, Iowa: Anatomy of an Impact Crater. - 476 S., div. Abb.,
A comprehensive description of research on the 38-k-diameter Manson impact structure in north-central Iowa. This structure, one of about 20 confirmed impact structures in the U.S., was initially suspected as one factor in the K-T boundary drama. The possible association with the K-T boundary led to an increase in research on the Manson structure in the 1980s. Then, in 1991 – 1992 the Iowa Geological Survey Bureau and the U.S. Geological Survey conducted a Manson core drilling program. The results of many of the investigations on samples of Manson cores and related studies are reported in this volume. The contents of the volume range from geophysical studies of the crater structure to detailed mineralogical, petrological, and geochemical investigations of rocks from the cores, and from the documentation of post-impact hydrothermal events to the study of possible distal impact deposits in South Dakota and Nebraska. These studies also have produced a more accurate age of Manson at about 74 Ma, discrediting theories that the Manson impact was associated with the K-T boundary events.

Glacial Processes. Past and Present. CD-ROM. - 168 S.,
In recent years increased interaction between glacial geologists and glaciologists has led to the development of many exciting new ideas and techniques related to the reconstruction of former ice sheets. The 18 chapters in this volume demonstrate a variety of approaches to research on modern glaciers and to the evaluation of the geologic record of former ice sheets. The papers describe research on modern glaciers, providing insight on basal ice accretion, the evolution of subglacial drainage systems, and the analysis of glacigenic materials with respect to origin and the sliding of ice over fine-grained till. Papers describing research on former ice sheets deal with reconstructing ice-sheet profiles, ice-marginal conditions, flow patterns, ice-sheet dynamics, and subglacial conditions. All papers were presented at a symposium on paleoglaciology at the 1998 GSA North-Central Section meeting in Madison, Wisconsin.
